Day 8 (Gtrs & Vox)

Noise! And lots of it. We had some difficulty recording guitars this morning because of a faulty cable. Also, there’s a lovely construction crew working across the street. After doing some guitar on “Home Again”, Henry and Mike played on “I’ll Come Back”. Henry also recorded parts for “In Blue” and “Greensleeves”. The latter took a while because everything had to be built piece by piece, and that takes time. Another twist today was when the band realized that the tempo wasn’t perfect on a certain song. Andrew slowed the drums down a few BPM and the guitar parts were all redone. Many hours went into fixing that. Oh, and Andrew tracked some guitar on “In Blue” too. In the late evening, Ian did his first set of vocals. We put up three baffles in the center of the live room and plugged in two trusty vocal mics: a Shure SM7B and a Neumann U87. Quite easily, Ian tackled “American Horror Story”, “In Blue”, and “I’ll Come Back”. For the falsetto parts in “I’ll Come Back”, he did everything in the bathroom. Each time, he finished in about six to ten takes. Overall, the day was tiring but very productive. We left the studio at 11:30 PM, which is our latest yet.
